Everything You Need to Know About QuiltCon 2020

One of our favorite times of the year is here again, QuiltCon!  As a company that began with two friends quilting bags for other women nearly 40 years ago, we couldn’t be more excited to attend the largest modern quilting show around for the second year in a row.  We’re not only sponsoring this event presented by the Modern Quilt Guild, but we’re also bringing along four Vera Bradley-inspired quilts, a NEW pattern made in honor of QuiltCon and more. Keep reading for all the details on QuiltCon 2020!

Thousands of attendees will visit Austin from February 20-23 to see nearly 600 modern quilts (that’s right, 600!) on display at this year’s QuiltCon event. Attendees will also enjoy four days of lectures and workshops led by quilters and designers. Vera Bradley is a Platinum Sponsor again this year, serving as a panelist for QuiltCon’s Best in Show award and presenting this accolade to the winner. We’ll also be back with a HUGE booth to display our quilts and sell select styles in Gramercy Paisley, Garden Grove, Denim Navy and Cloud Vines Patchwork, created exclusively for QuiltCon.

“I grew up with my mom making quilts,” says Amanda, the designer of this year’s QuiltCon pattern, Cloud Vine Patchwork. “I remember going to the fabric store with her and watching her pick out the different patterns and colors and piecing them together. This star block pattern is something reminiscent of what she did and those trips we took together.” This one-of-a-kind pattern gives all quilters what they love: a little bit of everything quilted into one. From the mix of stripes and dots to the ditsys and florals, there’s so much to love about Cloud Vine Patchwork. And we’ll let you in on a secret: Cloud Vines Patchwork was inspired by a pattern you’ll see coming out next month!

One of the quilters we are collaborating with, Sybil Magrill, not only made a quilt pattern called Starry Vines but also created an entire demonstration that you can follow to create your own Starry Vines quilt by using the yard fabric sold at QuiltCon. The fabrics include six patterns: Garden Ditsy Lavender, Garden Ditsy Turquoise, Hummingbird Blooms Yellow, Hummingbird Park Yellow, Garden Grove Lavender and Cloud Vine White. Fabric will be available for purchase exclusively at QuiltCon.

Quilting has been in our roots since day one. This is why we wanted to bring four quilts to QuiltCon to honor this timeless craft and how it’s evolved to thrive in today’s world. We decided to collaborate with quilters, Della Wolschleger, Heather Hancsak, Sybil Magrill, and Erica Lynn Friend to create four quilts inspired by Gramercy Paisley, Garden Grove, Cloud Vines, and our upcoming breast cancer awareness pattern, Felicity Paisley.

To say the women who made these quilts are pros would be an understatement! Della from Harbor, Michigan has been quilting since her childhood and has made quilts for her family, friends and even an event to raise funds for breast cancer research. Heather is back to make her second Vera Bradley-inspired quilt for QuiltCon, and we couldn’t think of anyone better with over 20 years of quilting under her belt. This will also be Sybil’s second Vera Bradley-inspired quilt she’s creating for QuiltCon. She’s an Indiana native who discovered quilting 10 years ago after receiving a sewing machine as a gift and never looked back. Last but certainly not least is Erica, who constructed her very first quilt in third grade! Since 2015, Erica has worked in sewing full-time, and we’re so excited to display her creation at QuiltCon.
