With International Women’s Day later this week, we wanted to give our readers an exclusive sneak peek at a special collection. Arriving online and in stores on Friday, March 8, the New Hope Girls + Vera Bradley limited-edition collection will feature two exclusive styles in a new pattern supporting an important mission: providing refuge for girls and jobs for women.
see how it was made
The New Hope Girls + Vera Bradley limited-edition collection was crafted by hand in the Dominican Republic and features two exclusive styles — a Hobo Bag and Zip Pouch. Both are made of the New Hope Girls signature cotton slub canvas and are lined with a soft cotton canvas. If the pattern feels familiar, it’s because it’s an oversized and recolored version of our new Kaleidoscope pattern (available next Thursday)! The colorful hues on a bright white ground are perfect for the warmer months to come.

From the very beginning, giving back has been and continues to be a key part of Vera Bradley’s heritage and culture. As a company founded by women for women, we prioritize supporting organizations focused on helping girls and women in need, both near and far. When the Vera Bradley team connected with New Hope Girls in 2016, we were humbled by their story and mission. After meeting the women behind New Hope Girls and seeing their facility, our team felt compelled to get involved.
In 2016, we sponsored their new workshop and helped build a safe and efficient sewing workspace for the women, fully equipped with industrial sewing machines. Our team also assisted in training the women of New Hope Girls with new techniques to further improve their craft. This workshop has become a sacred space for the women to grow as artisans and individuals, giving them work they can be proud of. In addition, Vera Bradley is making a $25,000 donation to New Hope Girls on International Women’s Day in support of their important mission.
a little about new hope girls…
New Hope Girls is a charitable organization based in the Dominican Republic that provides hope for the most vulnerable, impoverished girls. New Hope Girls provides a safe and stable living space, as well as education for the girls and women they house. Women are employed in their sewing workshop and paid a fair wage to create bags that provide for their families. All proceeds from these bags are funneled back to New Hope Girls for education, housing, meals and everything in between.

Before Ana Silvia became part of the workshop, she longed for a safe and healthy place to work. Since joining the workshop, she has been welcomed into a community with a mission and purpose. Ana Silvia believes each woman in the workshop is a world changer.
Wanda is an overcomer who persistently cares for and encourages the other women in the workshop. She believes that every bag sold is one step closer to victory for each and every life that New Hope Girls touches.
The workshop of New Hope Girls was born in Rosa’s home. She believes that when you are faithful with little, you will be entrusted with much more. A pattern maker with an eye for design, Rosa has seen so many women’s lives transformed throughout the years.
Yosy inspires those around her by singing and laughing as she works, fully aware of the gifts of her sewing machine. Every day she is thankful for the opportunity to support the mission of offering light to girls from the darkest of places, while providing for her own family with honor.
Ivelisse learned how to dream big dreams when she joined the workshop staff. Every day she is filled with gratitude that she is able to provide for her children and believes that their lives will continue to be shaped by every bag purchase.
Nena has experienced profound growth since joining the workshop. She is now filled with vision and hope that comes from making bags that hold such purpose. She believes that the world will know New Hope Girls’ bags and choose to support their important work.
Before joining the New Hope Girls workshop, Mella had no previous sewing experience. But she has dedicated herself to her craft and is now able to provide for her daughter with honor. She dreams of the same freedom she has received for all those still waiting for their rescue.
