While you can treat your valentine (or galentine) to a special gift, (check these out for ideas!). The Valentine’s Day celebration doesn’t have to stop there. Keep reading for four ways to show people a little extra kindness this February 14th!
adopt a furry friend
This might be our favorite way to spread the love this Valentine’s Day. If you’ve been exploring the idea of adopting a cat or dog, there’s no better time than this holiday that’s all about love. Many animal shelters have social media pages or websites with information on pets that are available for adoption. Once you’re ready, go down to your local animal shelter to see if there’s a pet you can give a home! If you’re not quite ready to adopt yet, many shelters accept donations (towels, food, etc.) and love volunteers.
No matter how big or small the town you live in is, you can find an organization that will gladly take your help this time of year. A great place to start is by reaching out to your local food bank to see if they need an extra set of hands or food donations. Otherwise, Habitat for Humanity makes it easy to find a location near you where you can volunteer.
send candy grams
While Valentine’s Day is often about catching the love bug, it’s also the perfect time to remind friends and family that you’re thinking of them. In our book, you truly can’t give too many candy grams, so we recommend printing off these cute messages and attaching a little something sweet. Give them to your parents, bestie and favorite coworker. Like we said, the more the merrier!
make a donation
The holidays are usually a peak time for making charitable donations, but the reality is that non-profits run year-round and could always use donations. Hop online and look into organizations that are close to your heart or research ones that you’ve wanted to learn more about. Once you’ve looked around, decide which organization you’d like to make a donation to on February 14. Even better—you can make supporting a new organization each year a tradition!
