When you think of Vera Bradley, it’s likely that our bold patterns, bright colors and spacious duffels come to mind. Since the very beginning, this signature duffel silhouette has been a key part of our identity, offered in various sizes over the years. The 100 Handbag was always a fan-favorite for its practical, everyday size, making it the perfect candidate to bring back for a makeover.
That’s right — our famous bag is back! While it may look similar to its vintage twin, don’t be fooled. We spoke with senior designer, Lap-Yin Chu, to learn how the 100 Handbag of the past is returning with the versatility and functionality we all need in 2018. Let’s meet the Iconic 100 Handbag.
While the duffel is forever a staple at Vera Bradley, Lap-Yin and the trend team were thrilled when they saw the classic duffel shape rising as an on-trend silhouette across the fashion industry. There was no better time to bring back the fan-favorite style infused both with our heritage and more modern elements.
First and foremost we know you like to switch it up, which is why Lap-Yin made it a priority that the Iconic 100 Handbag could be worn multiple ways. The handles have been shortened for a more modern look and we’ve added a detachable, adjustable shoulder strap so you can adjust the length to make it a shoulder bag or crossbody. We even took it a step further and added two exterior full-length zip pockets and three more interior pockets for added function and security.

We’ve left the choice up to you! When we decided to bring back the Iconic 100 Handbag, we wanted to provide options to fit every style and personality. The silhouette comes in Microfiber Gage Blue, Charcoal, Classic Navy and Classic Black for those wanting an evergreen handbag. If you’re looking for something with an elevated modern twist, we have the Iconic 100 handbag in Denim Navy. However, Lap-Yin’s favorite way to wear this bag is, of course, in one of our patterns, especially Romantic Paisley, Charcoal Medallion or Vines Floral.
“I like the cotton version as this is a revamp of an old style. Having it in a cotton pattern is very Vera Bradley, but now it’s paired with an updated style.”
